This service uses our FZ furnaces to produce prototype crystals in order to meet the needs of researchers who want crystals that are not normally available, such as crystals they have never seen before, crystals they have seen in the literature but are not available for sale, or crystals that are available for sale but they would like to change the composition slightly.

About Crystal Prototyping
Using our flagship product, the Optical Floating Zone Furnaces, we will perform melting and crystal growth of your desired material.
The specific arrangements will vary on a case-by-case basis—for example, we can accommodate requests ranging from “I can prepare the feed rod needed for FZ growth, so I only need you to perform the growth” to “I have no knowledge about crystal growth, so I’d like you to handle everything from sourcing the raw materials onward.”

Disadvantages
Difficult to grow large, inch-sized crystals
Advantages
No crucible is used, so impurities are less likely to be introduced
Can be grown in a variety of atmospheres, including O2 and Ar
Good for materials containing small amounts of additives
Can grow high-melting-point materials etc.
